Water cups: most commonly offered in front of the Buddha, usually seven cups for a group, to be neatly arranged and spaced for a grain of rice or a finger width, the water level needs to be away from the rim of the cup a distance of one grain of rice in order to avoid overflowing. The water level should be one meter away from the edge of the cup to avoid spillage. The water should be blessed by reciting the “Bu-Ah-Hum” or Guanyin Mantra, and the water should be collected and replaced with new water in the afternoon of each day.
Requirements for placement: Keep the cups arranged in a straight line, with a moderate distance between them, avoiding them being too far apart or touching each other, otherwise they may affect the clarity of the mind or keep away from the good knowledge.
Water quality and capacity: Use clean and cool water, not full or overflowing, otherwise it may lead to poor observance of the precepts or confusion in thinking.
