Gaiwan is a kind of Han Chinese tea set with a lid on top, a bowl in the middle and a tea tray at the bottom.
It is also called "Sancai bowl" or "Sancai cup". The lid represents the sky, the bowl represents people and the tray represents the earth, which implies the meaning of heaven, earth and people.
It originated in Sichuan during the Tang Dynasty in China and was popular in the capital of the Qing Dynasty.
